Toshiba introduces dual-screen netbook on 25th anniversary

As a part of their 25th anniversary of the world’s first mass-market laptop, Toshiba has unveiled what may be a very exciting development in the area of netbooks and tablets. Coming in August is the Libretto W100, which seems like a cross between those two types of computing devices.

Basically the form factor is that of a netbook but instead of the physical keyboard there is another touch screen.

Each screen is 7-inches across and has the standard netbook resolution of 1024×600 pixels.

It runs Windows 7 and adjusts the screen orientation on both displays as you turn the device, just like iPad.

Inside there is apparently an Intel Pentium ultra low voltage processing running at 1.2GHz, 2GB RAM and a 64GB SSD. You can also find a webcam, Wi-Fi, MicroSD card slot, Bluetooth and one USB port.

At 1.5kg this should be a really portable device so let’s hope it can provide some good battery life.

Unfortunately the reported price of $1,099 may put some potential buyers off. The price seems high especially if they think they’re going to capture netbook users.
