Samsung finally brings NX10 digital camera to Middle East

With a press released issued today Samsung announced that they’re finally bringing the NX10 interchangeable lens camera to the Middle East. The NX10 did its debut at CES in January and we actually interviewed Samsung about it for our podcast.

The NX10 looks like a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera but it’s really more related to some of the Micro Four Thirds cameras. Micro Four Thirds is a system developed by Olympus and Panasonic as a universal replacement for the lens mounts that have been with us for many years, mainly the ones from Canon and Nikon. Since the new system was brand new it didn’t have to be backwards compatible with anything that came before it enabling the creators some freedom to come up with something new.

However, Samsung NX10 does not use the Micro Four Third system. Instead, Samsung came up with the NX mount, their own creation. This obviously gives them possibilities to do whatever they want to with lenses and cameras but it also means they’re totally alone, at least for now, supporting this new format.

The sensor inside the NX10 is an APS-C sized CMOS sensor, much the same like what you find in entry-level DSLRS. Like with Micro Four Thirds cameras there’s no glass prism in the NX10 so they can make it more compact than most DSLRs. Instead of looking through a glass prism you look at an electronics viewfinder (EVF). You can also use the 3-inch LCD display on the back to frame your photos.

With 14.6MP there should be enough pixels to capture fine details but obviously the sensor, lenses and other factors play a role as well. The NX10 has a built-in popup flash but there’s also a hotshoe for external flashguns if you require them.

Originally they only offer three lenses for the NX10: 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 OIS, tele zoom 50-200mm f4.0-5.6 OIS and pancake lens 30mm f2.0. They’ve since expanded to add also 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 non OIS, 20mm f2.8 pancake lens, 60mm f2.7 macro lens, 20-50mm f3.5-56 lens and an 18-200m f3.5-63 OIS lens. OIS means Optical Image Stabilizer. In addition to lenses there are also other accessories available, like an external flash.

We hope to be able to review the NX10 soon.

In addition to take still photos the NX10 can record 720p HD video.
