7 iPhone apps for Valentine’s day

Whether you have an iPhone or iPod touch, why not use your favorite Apple device to spice up Valentine’s day a bit? There are plenty of apps available that’ll help you in many different ways and remember that something simple as iCal for reminders may save the day. We’ve looked at a number of apps and picked out seven that we think may help make Valentine’s into that very special day we all know it can be and should be.

Who With Whom – Free

This is like having a match-making web site in the palm of your hand. Gather together a group of people that you suspect may be compatible in different ways, let them go through the questionnaire in the app and amaze at the result of how it can partner people up. While it’s true that a random matchup is more accurate than this, I’m sure, it can be a bit of fun in certain social situations. There is also a $1.99 version with which you can evaluate unlimited number of people (in the free one the limit is three).

A Perfect Boyfriend – Hear Him Talk – Free

This one falls under the headline of “not very useful but occasionally fun” in the App Store. If you’re short of a date for Valentine’s take this virtual boyfriend with you and while staying in full control of the evening you can be dazzled as he proclaims “I think about your smile every day” and many other more or less useful phrases. There is also a $0.99 version with more sayings and pictures.

My Valentine – $0.99

This is another one trick pony in the collection. My Valentine let’s you quickly create cute cards with plenty of hearts, pink colors and some text as well. There’s not a lot of customization options but that’s actually okay as the app does what it’s supposed to do in a very straightforward way.

iLuv Hearts – $3.99

So it’s not exactly cheap but it does offer 100 “exclusive” backgrounds for your iPhone. You basically pick one of the backgrounds and then you can put some text on it. It’s very easy to use and although the functionality seems a bit limited with the price in mind it all works very well.

The Love Machine – Free

Of course you want to find out what your chances are with the opposite sex before you venture into the unknown, right? The Love Machine will tell you what your sex appeal is on a scale from “Casanova” to “Cold fish.” With Twitter and Facebook integration you can either boast about your rank or try to hide in shame as you accidentally made public your “Cold fish” status.

Photo Framer – $0.99

This is a general purpose app with which you can place fun and decorative frames around photos and pictures. Basically, when you start the app you can take a new photo or use an existing one. Then you can pick a frame from different categories, including Valentine’s day. When you’re done the framed photo is saved back to the iPhone.

Skype – Free

This may seem like a strange choice for a list of Valentine’s apps but the simple fact is that so many among us are away from family and friends for periods of time and that can be hard on occasions such as February 14. Talking to them certainly helps and Skype can be one way of doing that. Skype may be blocked from download on your Mac or PC but it’s readily available in the App Store and as long as you’re doing Skype-to-Skype calls you don’t even need to access Skype.com.

There you go, that’s my selection after trawling through the App Store. What are some of your recommendations?
