Today du launched what they called “a unique service.” It’s a prepaid service for home, landline telephones and it works on both Etisalat and du landlines. “We continue to evolve our suite of home services” said Farid Faraidooni, Chief Commercial Officer, du. In 2009, Faraidooni said, du rolled out a number of home services including du tv, HD tv, Video on Demand, 24 mbps broadband, etc.
Today they added to the portfolio a prepaid home phone service. Customers can call the whole world (190 countries) for low rates:
- 9pm-9am, every day, 1 fils / sec
- 9am-9pm, friday, 3 fils / sec (2 fils per second offer until Feb 18)
- 9am-pm, sat-th, 1.5 fils / sec
To use the service, after signing up, customers dial a prefix (08888) and then the number they want to call. For du phone customers, they dial “*” before the number.
Customers wanting to take advantage of this service has to go through a one time activation (call 800 135 from any landline in UAE) for which they receive AED 5 in credit. Recharge cards will be available in all du outlets in AED 20/50/100/200/500 card denominations.
Faraidooni said this service uses du’s VOIP technology but it doesn’t let users make calls over the Internet.
