This is Waleed saying hello

Hello World!

I‘m Waleed Jameel, evangelist of many things, living and working from Dubai. I’ve been working in the open source industry for 5 years now and find it an incredibly rewarding place to be. I’m a 3rd generation teacher and live/work/sleep in eLearning for a global corporate academy. The open source system I work daily on is called Moodle and shockingly enough, rhymes with noodle. FYI: it stands for Modular Object Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment. Yeah I know – go figure.

I’ve been working with Macs for almost 10 years now but only when they switched to Intel did I get one. The speed differences were massive and I was sold – an iMac arrived at my home shortly after. My next machine was a MacBook to replace my corporate laptop – XP had been annoying me until I finally returned the laptop to the office and went and got my own Mac. Life has been much more comfortable since.

I switched because it dawned on me that we spend 6-10 hours a day on our machines – 50-70 hours a week. That’s a lot of hours. Would you spend 6-10 hours a day sitting on a broken chair to work? What about an office without air-conditioner during summer? Nope, you wouldn’t. So let’s apply the same standard and upgrade from sub-standard systems that hinder performance.

I now live a self-supported Mac lifestyle in a corporate Windows world. It is a good balance and drives me to look at issues and challenges from multiple perspectives. In the process, I have learnt a lot.
