It was love at first touch

My mom loves me to bits. She really does. She’s the most awesome mom in the world, just like any other mom out there (moms are awesome, and if you think otherwise, shame on you!).1
“Kinan studied Computer Science at the American University of Sharjah,” she boasts to her friend. I hide the fact that I spent more time in the School of Architecture and Design than I spent in the computer labs. Not that my major was mundane* or anything, but the guys in the other building possessed an item of great importance that we CS students lacked – Macs.
Macs are considered an alien species of computers that only appear in movies and have invaded their way into the lives of architects and hippies. I will quote a friend of mine who describes Macs in a rather simple way: “Macs don’t run Windows!”
“He’s also an avid photographer, and blogs too” my mom continues the conversation, sipping her Jasmine Tea. I never understood all those flavored teas. They smell wonderful, for sure, but I miss the days when tea was just red and affordable.
“He took this beautiful shot! Let me show you! Kinan!” she calls out to me. “Show us the photos you downloaded on your phone.”
I delicately handle my iPhone – delicately because all Apple products should be handled with more care than a 1 day old infant – and pray silently that mom’s friend doesn’t smudge her butter biscuit fingers all over the immaculately clean touchscreen.
I remember the day I first lay my eyes on the iPhone. The 2G iPhone with the posh casing and slick interface. I have known the Mac interface well, through my days over with the aspiring architects, and to see the awesome (albeit confusing) OS shrunk into a tiny screen you can touch was Divine.
I knew she** would be the one when I touched her.
“Take a look,” my mom shows off my photos on the bright, vividly colored iPhone 3G screen. Her friend ignores my photo (and slightly bruises my ego) but she comments something I have heard many times before: “Oh, you have an iPhone!”.
iPhones are special. They’re slick, they’re sexy, they’re hot, they’re full of apps and you can do a lot of things you wouldn’t be able to do on any other phone (Jailbreak it for extra goodies!).
iPhones lack some of the cross-app integration of the BlackBerry. They lack a bit in the memory department (I over-abuse it though), and the camera quality is like running the first Playstation on a 103″ 1080HD screen with no upscaling.
But lets face it, Macs WOW us, whether or not we admit it. So admit it already!
*haha KJ, haha

About the Author: My boss calls me a "bloggographer" - a term he coined for a guy who is as much of a blogger as he is a photographer. That's how I'd like to be known :-)
