iPhone – paving the way?

There’s a lot of traffic on networking sites. It’s quite evident that were headed in a direction where it’s all about leading a tribe and gaining the right kind of attention. My assumption is that everyone with an iPhone already has an app that lets them connect to Facebook or Twitter. Keeping in touch is cheaper now – almost free. So now, it’s all about who you choose to keep in touch with. Who has the privilege of your attention?
Sites like Spotify enable members to stream music wherever they are for a small fee. The Spotify app is already available for the iPhone, but not available in the UAE. At least not yet!
What’s the future like for music and networking? If everything was free or really cheap, where would your attention go? What would you listen to? How much free stuff would you keep stored on your computer or iPhone?
It definitely looks like high speed streaming will take over the music industry in the near future. Why store all the music on your phone when you have a high speed streaming option available? Torrent sites aren’t legal, but that doesn’t stop a lot of people. So what is the future really like? [Editor's remark: Torrent sites in themselves are not illegal but much of the content available on them is illegal to distribute.]
With over 100,000 apps already, the iPhone is making its way into the lives of most of us. How they manage to do it is remarkable – great features and applications on demand. If the public demands quality and service, that’s what you give them. That’s how you build a tribe of followers who preach about you, make sites and magazines about you, and blog about you.
The available application base decides the type of customers you attract and the broad range of apps available for the iPhone platform has already paved the way to its future.
In the UAE what we really need to keep up, is an affordable data package plan and great connectivity. I personally think that if services were really cheap, a lot of people would go for it. Charging for the extras based on user requirements is the way to go. An iPhone with the same price as in the US with a sensibly priced data package is what we need to get things rolling and not thinking twice about buying an iPhone with a decent data package.
We’re getting there, but at a lot slower and at a much more expensive pace than the rest of the world. Make it cheaper. Make it easier for us to join. We will then happily pay for the extras once we have a taste of what it’s like. That’s the way it’s going to be in the future – whether we like it or not!

I still don't understand why people need to pay AED249 for a 1MB connection. I understand that cabling the desert is an impressive feat but it's 2009 already!
