On the day of the iPhone 3GS launch in the UAE, October 27, Shufflegazine had the great opportunity to get an exclusive interview with Farid Faraidooni, du’s Executive Vice President Commercial. We offer a brief version here and the full version will be in our November issue.
Faraidooni started by saying that du is very delighted to be launching the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G in the UAE and that they look forward to a “long and beneficial association with Apple.” He said “we had to make sure that we are addressing the needs of all the different segments and we are confident that these offerings will set us apart from and differentiate us as the UAE’s iPhone provider of choice.”
Since du started taking bookings for their iPhone on October 17 and revealed their prices and plans, customers have eagerly looked forward to today’s release. Etisalat have yet to announce any plans for their iPhone offering but du’s plans have been widely recognized as being a great improvement on what has been previously offered. Faraidooni explained “We’re offering the iPhone packaged in a way that it gives the flexibility, it gives the transparency and it gives the affordability to our customers. Add to it the iPhone features of being intuitive and user friendly so that makes it very important for du to make it available to our customers.”
Faraidooni pointed out that du invests a lot in their infrastructure- AED2billion in 2008 and again about as much in 2009- so their customers can enjoy coverage where they live, work and travel. He said “I will add something more related to iPhone we are as well investing in Wi-Fi networks, which will be available to our iPhone users free of charge except on Dubai Metro, which is a special partnership with the RTA.”
It’s clear that Faraidooni is excited about today’s launch and that du has been able to bring iPhone to its customers. We know that many Apple fans are equally excited that there is now a second company selling iPhone officially in UAE. As we continue to follow developments with iPhone we’ll bring you the latest as we come across it.
