Etisalat iPhone 3G plans cheaper and new data-only plans

Etisalat today announced lower prices on prepaid iPhone 3G bought from them, increased data plans and two new data-only plans with more data allowance.

On postpaid plans the price of an iPhone 3G are unchanged ranging from free to AED2575. The price of the plans have fallen though with AED99 (AED199 before), AED249 (AED299 before) and AED449 (AED499 before) being the options. These plans are valid for both the 8GB and 16GB models with the initial purchase price being different between the models.

Prepaid iPhone 3G has been reduced in price. The 8GB model is now AED2399, down from AED2680 and the 16GB iPhone 3G is now AED2775, down from AED3055.

In what should make many who have previously complained of low data bundles happy, Etisalat have introduced data-only plans with 5GB or 10GB data included respectively. Voice and SMS is charged separately at the usual rates. If you use an iPhone mainly for data these plans may be a good option for you. For example, you can buy the iPhone 3G for AED2699 and pay AED249 per month for 12 months and get 5GB of data per month. For the 10GB option you pay AED349 per month. That should be compared to the normal price of AED460 for the 10GB 3G data plan.

Now we only need to know what’s happening with iPhone 3GS. All I can assume is that the release is not far away.

  • Just been browsing the Etisalat website and looking at the iPhone 3G 16GB plans and your numbers are different to theirs. It looks like it will cost dhs 925 up front for plan 3 (also dhs 20/month line rental). Now isn't the upfront of 925 a significant increase for plan 3 or the 2G package. (was there not 4 before the data only plans were announced?)

  • The etisalat website is still saying dhs 925 upfront cost for plan 3! Also fine printed is a dhs 20/month line rental (only for plan 3)

  • Good question Fakhra. The press release doesn't say but I'll try to confirm. I assume the iPhone plans are the same as before, meaning only for Etisalat iPhones. When it comes to the data plans we'll see.
