Samsung brings first Android mobile phone to Middle East

samsungi7500_androidAndroid, initially developed by Google, is an open source operating system for mobile device, which is for the first time making its way to the Middle East in the form of Samsung’s I7500.

The I7500 is 3.5G smartphone, offering quad-band GSM and HSDPA at 7.2Mbps. Samsung put in a 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen (320×480 pixels, 16 million colors), a 5-megapixel autofocus camera ( 2592 x 1944 pixels) with power LED flash, GPS and a digital compass. There is a 3,5mm standard headphone jack, 8GB built-in storage (expandable with microSD card, up to 16GB), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and accelerometer (it senses when you turn it).

In terms of software it seems equally well-equipped with Google’s mobile services including Google Search, GMail, YouTube, Google Calendar, Google Maps and Google Talk.

The phone is available in UAE for AED2299. We should have one handset arrive in our office in the next few days and we’ll get back to you with some early impressions as soon as we can.

Update: According to a representative for Samsung’s PR agency, my sentence from above should read:

In terms of software it seems equally well-equipped with Google™ mobile services including Google Search™, GMail™,  Calendar, Google  and Google Talk™.
