This afternoon we discovered WewantAppleSaudi.com, a campaign web site by SaudiMac.com. The site starts out by saying, “Apple is a major brand in the United States but in Saudi Arabia it is considered ‘too expensive’ and ‘have bad warranty’ because of bad experience with Apple’s Authorised Distributor in Saudi Arabia, Arab Computers and Arab Business Machines, Apple’s Authorised Distributor in Middle East.” They continue to say, “The Apple iPod is very popular in Saudi Arabia, even though it still lacks support for Arabic language. The iPod brand is strong.”
Then they make a list of points, which they “believe will contribute to [Apple's] success in Saudi Arabia”: Open an Apple Retail Store, Open an Online Apple Store, Open an Apple Service Center, Provide better support and warranty, Localize Mac OS X, Support Arabic on the iPod, Offer better prices, Expand the iTunes Store, and Standardize Saudi Arabia Apple homepage.
As they point out, Apple Inc. now has a direct presence in the Middle East by offering iPhone in Saudi Arabia and UAE via Mobily and Etisalat respectively.
We’ll keep an eye on the site and see if they have an success in their mission.
