Google makes Chrome available, says “Don’t download it!”

chrome_iconYesterday, Google made an early development version of their web browser Google Chrome available for Mac OS X and various flavors of Linux. They try hard to warn users that this is software early in the development cycle and it has problems:

… whatever you do, please DON’T DOWNLOAD THEM! Unless of course you are a developer or take great pleasure in incomplete, unpredictable, and potentially crashing software. How incomplete? So incomplete that, among other things, you won’t yet be able to view YouTube videos, change your privacy settings, set your default search provider, or even print.

I’ve downloaded it after a few hours of browsing with it I can certainy see some of the issues but it’s been perfectly usable. That said, heed Google’s warning and don’t use Chrome for anything important, at least not yet.

  1. Maybe, this is the start of Google supporting their apps on Macs. I would really really love a Mac version of Google Talk!, it is one helluva messenger and I sorely miss it on the Mac. Unfortunately even CrossOver for Mac does not support Google Talk! :-( so I boot Fusion just for the Google Talk! which is a pain in the you-know-where.
