Etisalat Installment Plans for Blackberry Phones… iPhones to Follow Suit?

The iPhone is set to be officially launched in Dubai, although the question is still: When? After years of negotiations between Apple and Etisalat, and multiple rumors during that time, Etisalat finally made an officially statement on February 2nd, letting us know that the iPhone’s official arrival was finally imminent. How imminent? Well, since the original announcement, Etisalat has provided almost no solid information about their iPhone offering, least of all on the timing or price. And at least one launch date reported in the press has come and gone without a peep from the big ‘E’. So, rumors and speculation continue to fill the vacuum left by the lack of information.

One of the hottest topics is, of course, the price of an officially distributed iPhone in the UAE. A price of 3000 AED has been suggested/rumored, but with unofficially imported iPhones going for several hundred dirhams less, that price is not very encouraging, despite the better support for the device that would be assumed to accompany the sanctioned release.

But a possible note of encouragement came today, in the form of an email sent out by Etisalat, advertising the latest Blackberry phones. As well as announcing the new Blackberry models, the email also mentioned the data plans available for the devices, which seem pretty reasonable. The basic 3MB data plan starts at 130 AED a month, but the “unlimited” plans are better bargains at 185 AED for the domestic (UAE) plan and 295 AED for the Global plan. These sound better than the 500 AED data plan the has been rumored for the iPhone in the UAE, although the comparative details of the plans could change that evaluation.

Even more encouraging though is Etisalat’s mention of the installment plans available for all the Blackberry phones that they sell. These plans come in 1 and 2 year varieties and offer very favorable arrangements for obtaining a Blackberry device while lessening the initial cash outlay usually required for obtaining one. Using the Blackberry Bold as an example, which generally sells for 3000 AED, the 1 year installment plan requires a 778 AED down payment and installments of 195 AED a month, which totals to 3118 AED. As financing terms go, that’s a quite small markup. Certainly cheaper than putting it on one’s credit card in the vast majority of cases.

So while I hope- though don’t expect- the official iPhone price in the UAE will be a lot lower than suggested 3000 AED, if Etisalat will offer similarly favorable installment plans for it, the pill will be a bit easier to swallow.

Here’s hoping that Etisalat will have a pleasantly surprising offer when the time comes and, especially, that the wait for it will not be too much longer!

يعتبر السعر من الموضوعات الساخنة، تم اقتراح او بالاحري أطلقت الشائعات سعر يبلغ ٣٠٠٠ درهم و لكن هواتف الآي فون التي يتم استيرادها بشكل غير رسمي يقل سعر عدة مئات من الدراهم لذا يعتبر هذا السعر غير مشجع على الإطلاق على الرغم من الخدمة الأفضل التي من المتوقع تقديمها من الشركة.

إلا ان هناك اشارة جيدة ظهرت اليوم حيث ذكرت اتصالات الباقات المتاحة لهواتف بلاكبيري. هذه الباقات تتوفر لمدة عام او عاميين وتقدم اختيارات متنوعة للحصول على هاتف بلاكبيري من خلال دفع مبالغ معقولة جداً. سوف نأخذ بلاكبيري بولد على سبيل المثال والذي يباع عام بمبلغ ٣٠٠٠ درهم، باقة العام الأول تتطلب مبلغ ٧٧٨ درهم كدفعة أولى وآقساط شهرية تبلغ ١٩٥ درهم وصل اجمالي المدفوعات ٣١١٨ درهم، والملاحظ أن المبلغ الربحي المضاف صغير ويعد أفضل من دفع المبلغ الكامل مرة واحدة.

مع انني آمل أن يكون السعر الرسمي للآي فون فى الإمارات أقل من ٣٠٠٠ درهم إلا انني لا أعتقد ذلك، إذا ما قامت اتصالات بتوفير خطط دفع مشابهة سوف يكون من السهل تفادي الصدمة.
