Etisalat iPhone Deal: Some Answers, More Questions

Yesterday I posted an article trying to figure out what all the things we didn’t know about yet concerning the imminent official arrival of iPhone in UAE and KSA. After another day of iPhone craziness, let’s see what we’ve learned:

• Price: Nothing new, still don’t know the details.
• Data plan: Nothing new, still don’t know the details.
• Locked or unlocked: Nothing new, still don’t know the details. They say they’re still looking into it. Sounds to me they just don’t want to say, surely they know by now. My guess is they will be locked to Etisalat.
• Existing iPhones: A Business 24-7 article says that earlier versions of iPhone can use Etisalat’s new service. This means everyone who has an iPhone or iPhone 3G should be able to sign up for the upcoming Etisalat iPhone packages.
• Contracts: There is no definite word on contracts yet but it sure sounds like it will be sold on contract. Etisalat says, it will be sold with a monthly plan, bundling “handset, voice minutes and mobile internet access.”
• Arabic: No word on this yet.
• Stores: Etisalat says the iPhone will be sold through their stores and business centres.
• Warranty, service, support: We learned that Etisalat says they’ve spent four times more than usual on training staff for the iPhone and that Apple has had representatives here “regularly”.

To this list we can add:

• Availability: They start selling on February 15. Remember the previous rumor saying February 14?No word on availability other than what it said in the initial Etisalat ad that it would be “this month”, meaning February.
• New iPhone: A Business 24-7 article says that the “next version” of iPhone will be out in June.
• Visual Voicemail: Etisalat has upgraded their systems to fully support the iPhone’s Visual Voicemail.
• The deal: The deal between Etisalat and Apple has been “more than two years in the making.”

Still a lot we don’t know obviously but we’re getting there. We’ll keep on adding to the list as this story develops.

اتفاق اتصالات للآيفون: بعض الاجابات و الكثير من الأسئله

بالأمس نشرت مقالة محاولاً إكتشاف كل الأشياء التى لا نعرفها و المتعلقة بالوصول المنتظر للآيفون فى دولة الامارات و المملكة العربية السعودية. و الآن و بعد مرور يوم من هيستريل الآيفون لنرى ماذا نمى الى علمنا:
السعر: لاشيء جديد حتى الان لا نعرف اي تفاصيل.
باقة البيانات: لا شيء جديد حتى الآن لا نعرف اي تفاصيل.
مغلق ام غير مغلق: لا شيء جديد حتى الآن لا نعرف التفاصيل. يقولون انهم مازلوا يعملون على انهائها و لكن الامر يبدو لى و كأنهم يعرفون و لكنهم لا يريدون الافصاح. أعتقد أن الآيفون سوف يكون مغلق على اتصالات.
هواتف آيفون الموجودة حالياً: إحدى مقالات جريدة Business 24-7 تقول بأن النسخ القديمة من آيفون سوف تستطيع التمتع بخدمات اتصالات الجديدة مما يعنى أن فرد يملك آيفون زو آيفون “ثري جي” سوف يتمكن من الحصول على من باقة اتصالات القادمة.
العقود: لا يوجد اي تعليق محدد على العقود حتى الآن و لكن يبدو أن آيفون سوف يباع من خلال عقد. اتصالات اعلنت أنه سوف يباع وفق خطة شهرية تتضمن دقائق و امكانية استعمال الانترنت.
اللغة العربية: لا تعليق حتى الآن.
المتاجر: اتصالات أعلنت أن آيفون سوف يباع من خلال متاجرهم و مراكز خدمه العملاء.
الضمان و الخدمة و الصيانه: علمنا أن اتصالات اعلنت أن انهم قضوا وقتاً اطول من العده خلال تدريب فرقهم على آيفون  و أن أبل ارسلوا مندوبين هنا بشكل منتظم.

يمكن أن نضيف على هذه القائمة:
التوفر في السوق: سوف يبدأون فى البيع يوم ١٥ فبراير، تذكروا أن الاشاعة السابقة اعلنت ان البيع سوف يبدأ ١٤ فبراير.
آيفون جديد: إحدى مقالات جريدة Business 24-7 قالت أن النسخة الجديدة من آيفون سوف تطلق فى شهر يونيو.
البريد الصوتى المرئي: اتصالات حدثت نظامها لكى يدعم خاصية البريد الصوتى المرئي كلياً.
الإتفاق: الإتفاق بين اتصالات و أبل استمر اكثر من عاميين حتى تم التوصل اليه.
حتى الآن هناك أمورلا نعلمها تماماً و لكننا سوف نصل لها و سوف نستمر بإضافة كل ما نعلمه إلى هذه القائمه.
