Review: Mophie JuicePack for iPod touch

One common complaint about the iPod touch is its short battery life. Let’s hope that Apple has improved this in the just-released second generation. Especially if you keep Wi-Fi on and with the push features in the 2.x version of the software, the touch’s battery drains very quickly. Mophie has taken the concept from their original JuicePack for iPhone and developed a version for iPod touch. It works the same way, you slide the iPod into place in the JuicePack and it acts as an external battery, which means you can use it for a lot longer time compared to just using the internal battery. On the back of the JuicePack you find four blue lights and a button. Press the button and see the lights turn on showing you the capacity of the charge in the extra battery. Mophie claims audio playback of up to 24 hours and video playback of up to 7 hours. During the time we’ve used the JuicePack it seems those numbers are close to the actual use you will get. Also on the bottom you’ll find the headphone jack. Unlike the iPhone, the iPod touch first generation doesn’t have speakers at the bottom so the JuicePack can fit tightly without any gap. It doesn’t add too much weight to the iPod and actually, in my hands at least, the JuicePack improves the grip I have of the iPod. Something that annoys me a bit with the JuicePack is that it has a mini-USB port on the bottom, not the usual iPod connection. This means I have to keep another type of cable around for syncing, and that’s not a good solution in my view. Another down side is that with the JuicePack attached you can’t put the iPod touch in any other case so protection is limited. If you can live with those shortcomings, and especially if you use your iPod touch extensively, the JuicePack is a very good investment.

الشكوي العامة من الايبود كانت قصر عمر البطارية لذا نأمل ان تحسن ابل هذا القصور في الجيل الثاني الجديد الذي اطلق حديثاً. هذا القصور يظهر بشكل كبير عند ترك الواي فاي مفتوحاًو لاسيما بوجود خاصية push الموجودة في برنامج الجيل الثاني. استخدمت موفي (Mophie) نفس الاسلوب الذي اتبعتة في تصميم جوس باك (JuicePack) للايفون لكي تقوم بتطوير نسخة مناسبة للايبود تاتش لذا فكلاهما يعمل بنفس الطريقة حيث انك تزلق الايبود في مكانة داخل الجوس باك فتبدأ بالعمل كبطارية خارجية، مما يعني انك تستطيع استعمال الجهاز لوقت اطول بكثير من الوقت الخاص بالبطارية الداخلية. علي ظهر الجوس باك سوف تجد اربعة انوار زرقاء و زر لمعرفة مستوي البطارية حيث تظهر الاضواء لك سعة البطارية الخارجية. اعلنت موفي ان عمر البطارية يصل الي ٢٤ اثناء العرض الصوتي و ٧ ساعات اثناء عرض الفيديو و خلال الوقت الذي استخدمنا فية الجوس باك لاحظنا ان هذة الارقام قريبة كثيراً من الحقيقة. سوف تجد ايضاً في اسفل الجهاز مدخل السماعات. علي عكس الايفون لا يوجد في الجيل الاول من الايبود تاتش مكبر للصوت في اعلي الجهاز لذلك فانة يناسب اكثر للجوس باك وبإحكام شديد. الجوس باك لا يضيف الكثير من الوزن للايبود، علي الاقل في يدي انا شعرت انة افضل. الامر الذي يضايقني قليلاً في الجوس باك ان هناك فتحات USB في اسفل الجهاز و لكنها ليست المعتادة للايبود مما يعني انني يجب ان احتفظ دائماً برابط متوافق مع ايبود اينما كنت و هذا بالطبع ليس الحل الامثل من وجهة نظري. العيب الاخر ان وجود الجوس باك يعوق دخول الايبود في اي غطاء وقاية. اذا كنت تستطيع ان تتعايش مع هذة العيوب و خاصة اذا كنت ممن يستعملون الايبود لفترات طويلة فان الجوس باك يعتبر استثمار جيد.
