RIM Releases Preview of Media Sync For BlackBerry and Mac, Disables Other Sync Software

As was announced some time ago, Research In Motion (RIM), makers of the BlackBerry line of mobile phones, has been working on some Mac software. This is way overdue in my opinion and a shame that it’s taken so long for them to wake up to the Apple market. But I guess we should be thankful that they’re now actually doing something.
So today they made available a preview (note that, it’s not final, so expect issues) version of the Media Sync for iTunes software. It’s a free download.
There is a demo of it online, which shows the functionality. It’s really pretty simple. You connect the BlackBerry device with the USB cable to your Mac and with the Media Sync software you can select what music from your iTunes collection that will be transferred to the BlackBerry. It doesn’t support music protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management), which would most likely be everything you’ve bought from the iTunes Music Store. Bummer.
But wait, there’s more…
When installing Media Sync it apparently checks if you have some other sync software installed. For us Mac users it would be PocketMac or Missing Sync. And it tells you that the other software will no longer work until you uninstall Media Sync. So what’s the point? That’s like one step forward and two steps back.
