Apple Dropping the Pro For Notebooks?

Will Apple drop the “Pro” from their notebook range? Some speculate that soon there will only be MacBooks and no MacBook Pros. And as the rumored release-date of October 14 for new Apple notebooks draws closer opinions differ of course on what we’re going to see.

Personally I don’t see Apple dropping the “Pro” from the notebook lineup. It makes sense to have a lower-end and a higher-end. That’s not going to change but come mid-October I think we’ll see redesigned notebooks. I’d be surprised if they release new-looking MacBooks and MacBook Pros at the same time though, that’s too much at one time. So they’ll go for either segment. Whichever segment it is my guess is that we’ll see something looking more like MacBook Air and iPhone than what we have today. Then there’ll be the usual stuff like faster processors, more memory, larger hard drives (or solid state drives), etc.

Will there be a tablet Mac? As much as I would like to see one I doubt it’ll available anytime soon if ever. It just doesn’t seem like something Steve Jobs would approve of, especially in light of iPhone and iPod touch. Will there be a really small Apple notebook (12-inch or 10-inch?). Again, as much as I would like to see something like that I don’t think that will happen either. Apple seem very content with the sizes they have right now.

I think we’ll see soon enough whether the rumors about a special event in October are true or not and then we’ll know if new things are happening in Apple’s notebook models. We know that notebooks are a fast growing customer segment and it’s very important to Apple so whatever they will do in this area is something we’ll pay close attention.
