Saturday’s Apple: Thoughts on Blackberry
Last week I wrote about iPhone and this week I thought I tell you a few things about Blackberry. I won’t dwell on mobile phones too much but I thought in fairness I would tell you something about what I like and not about that iPhone competitor out of Canada.
Note that all that I’m writing [...]
Saturday’s Apple: Impressions of iPhone One Year Later
So the iPhone has been widely available in our region for about a year now, and the new iPhone 3G is becoming more readily available although prices are still very high. I was thinking, what are my impressions of iPhone so far (we’re talking 1st generation iPhone with the 2.0 software)? As you will see [...]
Universal Music Enters Middle East Market
Yesterday it was announced that Universal Music Publishing Group, one of the largest music publishing companies in the world, signed a deal with a Fairwood/BKP Music (Arabia). Under the terms of the deal Fairwood would function as a “sub-publisher and licensing representative across the UAE and neighboring region”. This should certainly pave the way for [...]

Apple Should Take Inspiration From Nokia’s Ramadan Applications
Nokia has developed and made available for free six applications aimed at helping people manage the month of Ramadan, which is coming up soon. They’re developed by Nokia in the Middle East and they seem to cover a range of information and services. Check them out, they look really interesting.
I think this is something Apple’s [...]

Business 24-7 reports that “The UAE had the highest mobile phone penetration in the Arab world at the end of 2007, with its subscribers far exceeding its population.”
Apparently the number of subscribers were 7.6 million at the end of 2007, which is an astonishing 1.7 per actual person.
The article states, “The figure is far higher [...]
Business 24-7 Calls iPod “Tasty Device”
Rachel McArthur, writing for Business 24-7, calls the iPod Touch a “tasty device”.
She starts off with a statement we all can agree with, “Thank goodness for Apple. If there’s one company that has understood the needs of the MP3, sorry, I mean MP4 generation, it has been Apple.”
Rachel continues, “I got my hands on a [...]
IMC No More – Welcome VAD
Although I can’t find any official news or confirmation on this it seems that Apple has done away with the IMC (Independent Marketing Company) concept and now it’s called Value Added Distributor (VAD) instead. You can see a listof all VAD’s for Central Europe, Middle East and Africa on Apple’s web site. The list includes our [...]
Saturday’s Apple: The Pleasures of Vintage Apple Stuff
I’m running the risk of showing my age with this article, but that’s okay with me. Recently I posted about buying a cheap Powerbook G3 on eBay and trying to accessorize it to be functioning Mac.
The Wallstreet has G3 processor running at 233MHz and it runs Mac OS 9.2.2, the most recent OS before Mac [...]

Confessions of a Mac Beginner
When I started using Macs the concept of “switcher” didn’t exist. It was back in 1986 – yes, I’m showing my age here – and I was working for the summer at a factory. I was in high school and studied electrical engineering and I had managed to get a nice summer gig basically sitting [...]
Publish a Web Page With Word 2008
Microsoft Word has been a good web publishing application for many versions now. In fact, Excel and PowerPoint can also publish to the web. I wouldn’t recommend it for a commercial web site for a company, but for occasional single pages, it’s not bad. In the 2008 version Microsoft included a new function, the Web [...]
